Sustainable transport

As all the plants are delivered to us by truck from the regions of origin, it is very important for us to keep the CO2 emissions of our transport activities as low as possible. We work closely with our producers and transport partners to optimize truck capacity utilization in order to avoid empty runs and maximize efficiency. By carefully planning and combining pick-ups and destinations, we ensure that all the trucks are fully loaded and travel on optimal routes. In order to guarantee a transport solution that minimizes waste, we also rely on the use of reusable containers for our shipments. This approach allows us to work in a much more beneficial way and makes a significant contribution to reducing our ecological footprint. Furthermore, this self-developed logistics system for the retail trade saves over 700 tonnes of cardboard packaging every year.

As an active member of the ‘Greenlogistics by Galliker’ association, we are committed to sustainable logistics solutions. Together with numerous other companies, we are committed to promoting environmentally friendly innovations. Visit the website to find out more about the aims of Greenlogistics by Galliker.

Solar energy

A central pillar of our sustainability strategy is our 12,000 m solar plant, which produces enough clean energy to cover the needs of around 600 single-family homes. This not only helps to reduce our CO2 emissions, but also promotes the use of renewable energies in our region. To be able to charge the electrically powered trucks on site, we have installed charging stations at Bellaplant, which draw most of their energy from our solar power.

Recycling

Despite our reusable packaging strategy, we still produce a considerable amount of cardboard and wrapping film waste. For that reason, we have developed special waste concepts for these two main sources of waste. The films and cardboard boxes are compressed carefully to minimize the volume and ensure that as little air as possible is transported in the truck that takes the waste back to the supplier. There, the material is recycled, completing the closed-loop system for reuse.
